About this world

GJ 900 b is a gas giant orbiting GJ 900 A, an orange dwarf (type K7) 67.9 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.1 times the size of Jupiter (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 11 Jupiter masses.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 1 K (−272 °C): too cold for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2024 by direct imaging with Multiple Observatories. The planet itself is photographed, its star blocked by a coronagraph.
