About this world

GJ 896 A b is a gas giant orbiting GJ 896 A, a cool red dwarf (type M3.5V) 20.4 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.2 times the size of Jupiter (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 2.3 Jupiter masses. It completes an orbit every 284 days at 0.64 AU from its star, on a strongly elongated orbit (e = 0.35).

Its equilibrium temperature is about 127 K (−146 °C): too cold for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2022 by other methods with Very Long Baseline Array. Astrometry, orbital brightness modulation and disk kinematics.
