About this world

GJ 414 A b is a sub-Neptune orbiting GJ 414 A, an orange dwarf (type K7V) 38.8 light-years from Earth. It is about 2.6 times the size of Earth, with at least 7.6 Earth masses (a minimum, measured by radial velocity). It completes an orbit every 50.8 days at 0.23 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun, on a strongly elongated orbit (e = 0.45).

Its equilibrium temperature is about 309 K (35 °C): too cold for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2021 by radial velocity with W. M. Keck Observatory. The star wobbles toward and away from us, Doppler-shifting its spectrum. GJ 414 A has 2 known planets; the others are GJ 414 A c.
