About this world

G 196-3 b is a gas giant orbiting G 196-3, a cool red dwarf 71.1 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.1 times the size of Jupiter (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 26 Jupiter masses.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 1,670 K (1,397 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2024 by direct imaging with European Space Agency (ESA) Gaia Satellite. The planet itself is photographed, its star blocked by a coronagraph.
