About this world

FU Tau b is a gas giant orbiting FU Tau, a cool red dwarf (type M7.25) 435 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.1 times the size of Jupiter (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 16 Jupiter masses.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 2,375 K (2,102 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2008 by direct imaging with Spitzer Space Telescope. The planet itself is photographed, its star blocked by a coronagraph.
