About this world

eps Ind A b is a gas giant orbiting eps Ind A, an orange dwarf (type K5V) 11.9 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.1 times the size of Jupiter (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 6.5 Jupiter masses. It completes an orbit every 69.7 years at 16 AU from its star, on a strongly elongated orbit (e = 0.25).

Its equilibrium temperature is about 275 K (2 °C): too cold for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium. Its atmosphere has already been studied: 5 spectroscopic observations.

It was discovered in 2019 by radial velocity with La Silla Observatory. The star wobbles toward and away from us, Doppler-shifting its spectrum.
