About this world

DP Leo b is a gas giant orbiting DP Leo, a hot blue star 997 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.1 times the size of Jupiter (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 6.3 Jupiter masses. It completes an orbit every 28 years at 8.2 AU from its star, on a strongly elongated orbit (e = 0.39).

Its equilibrium temperature is about 24 K (−249 °C): too cold for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2009 by timing variations with Yunnan Astronomical Observatory. Pulsar, eclipse or transit timings drift as an unseen companion tugs on them.
