About this world

CT Cha b is a gas giant orbiting CT Cha, an orange dwarf (type K5E) 622 light-years from Earth. It is about 2.2 times the size of Jupiter and holds 17 Jupiter masses.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 2,600 K (2,327 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2007 by direct imaging with Paranal Observatory. The planet itself is photographed, its star blocked by a coronagraph.
