About this world

CoRoT-7 b is a super-Earth orbiting CoRoT-7, a yellow, Sun-like star (type G9V) 522 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.7 times the size of Earth and holds 4.1 Earth masses. It completes an orbit every 20.5 hours at 0.017 AU from its star, closer than Mercury is to the Sun.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 1,756 K (1,483 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. By the "cosmic shoreline", its star has probably stripped its atmosphere away, leaving bare rock.

It was discovered in 2009 by transit with CoRoT. A planet crosses its star and dims it by a tiny, periodic fraction. CoRoT-7 has 3 known planets; the others are CoRoT-7 c and CoRoT-7 d.
