About this world

CFBDSIR J145829+101343 b is a gas giant orbiting CFBDSIR J145829+101343, a cool red dwarf 75.3 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.1 times the size of Jupiter (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 11 Jupiter masses. It completes an orbit every 27.5 years at 2.6 AU from its star.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 370 K (97 °C): too cold for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2011 by direct imaging with W. M. Keck Observatory. The planet itself is photographed, its star blocked by a coronagraph.
