About this world

2MASS J03590986+2009361 b is a gas giant orbiting 2MASS J03590986+2009361, a cool red dwarf 383 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.1 times the size of Jupiter (its size estimated from its mass) and holds 18 Jupiter masses.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 2,369 K (2,096 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2024 by direct imaging with European Space Agency (ESA) Gaia Satellite. The planet itself is photographed, its star blocked by a coronagraph.
