About this world

2MASS J0249-0557 c is a gas giant orbiting 2MASS J0249-0557 A, a cool red dwarf (type M6V) 215 light-years from Earth. It is about 1.5 times the size of Jupiter and holds 11 Jupiter masses.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 1,723 K (1,450 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2018 by direct imaging with Mauna Kea Observatory. The planet itself is photographed, its star blocked by a coronagraph.
