About this world

2MASS J01225093-2439505 b is a gas giant orbiting 2MASS J01225093-2439505, a cool red dwarf (type M3.5V) 110 light-years from Earth. It is about 1 times the size of Jupiter and holds 25 Jupiter masses.

Its equilibrium temperature is about 1,600 K (1,327 °C): far too hot for liquid water on its surface. At its size it almost certainly keeps a deep envelope of hydrogen and helium.

It was discovered in 2013 by direct imaging with W. M. Keck Observatory. The planet itself is photographed, its star blocked by a coronagraph.
